RTC is a private undergraduate college with Bachelor’s degree programmes affiliated to the national public university, the Royal University of Bhutan. Started in 2009, RTC was the first private college in Bhutan and by 2016 it was the first independently accredited tertiary educational institute in the country, holding the Bhutan Accreditation Council’s highest A+ rating. Study areas include Bachelor of Arts programmes in Sociology & Political Science, Economics, English, Dzongkha (the national language), History, Anthropology, and Mass Communication, Bachelor of Business in Administration and Commerce, as well as a Bachelor of Science programme in Environmental Management and a BSc in Nursing and Midwifery. Our primary mission is to provide a college education that can push the standard traditional model of education slowly towards more modern/innovative approaches focusing on the holistic/skills-based development of our students. Since RTC’s very early days, we have felt that having good international exposure is important for us and primarily our Bhutanese students. Having international faculty members from diverse countries is part of the College’s internationalization strategy, and there are currently about 75 faculty members from 9 countries. International student peers on campus are another important aspect of our strategy. Therefore, we became the first full scale study-abroad option in Bhutan for students from other countries in 2010. Since then, we have had over 450 students from USA, Canada, UK, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, Tanzania, Thailand, among others, in both semester-study abroad and short-term programmes. The College has since initiated bidirectional exchanges with several partners.
Dr. Samir Patel is the Head of Development and External Relations Department. He is the overall in-charge of developing and maintaining all international partnerships (currently 30+ globally) for the International Relations Office within the department, and the establishment of bidirectional international exchanges with universities worldwide. Ms. Kencho Pelzom is the International Relations Manager at RTC. She is involved in managing RTC’s international partnerships including exchanges and affairs pertaining to the international student programmes at RTC. She also supervises the Asst. International Relations Officers in carrying out the logistics for international groups at RTC and exchanges. She further supervises on internship placements, coordinating meeting with various stakeholders, organizing events & guest speakers for international groups, organizing field visits / study tours – route permits, vehicle hire, accommodation, itineraries, etc.
